Doola Al-Ata is a great Artist from Dongola, in the southern part of Upper Nubia in Sudan. He is a creative singer and musician who sings in the Andandi (or Dongolawy) branch of the Nubian language, closely related to Kenzi spoken in some parts of Lower Nubia in Egypt.
Doola Al-Ata sings traditional Nubian heritage songs as well as a large collection of his own songs, faithfully based on original Nubian rhythms and musical heritage. He also plays the traditional "tambour" (or "kither" in Nubian), a muic instrument dating back to pre-pharaonic times.
In many of his videos, Doola Al-Ata gives us a taste not only of Nubian music, but also shows the traditional Nubian nature and lifestyle at the banks of the Nile, the plain beauty of "Old Nubia" that is today melancholically longed for by Nubians who have been displaced after the drowning of their homeland by the creation of Lake Nubia (or Lake Nasser).
