Late Jamal Sherif is one of the great masters of the Nubian song who brought renewal and addition of non-traditional music instruments to the art of Nubian songs. He was born in the village of Armina in 1937. He obtained a BA in Literature, Philosophy and Psychology at Cairo University in 1971.
However, his passion was for music and songs. Jamal Sherif was a very creative, prolific artist. Most of his songs concentrated on love, weddings and unity among the Nubians. He performed at many events all-over Egypt, in Halfa, the U.A.E. and Kuwait where he was acclaimed by the Nubian expatriate community.
With his chorale and "Arageed" dance troupe of young Nubian boys and girls, he added a fresh, melodious and beautiful background to his varied songs, and a wonderful performance to his concerts. To this day, the songs of Jamal Sherif are well alive and sung by various Nubian Artists.
