Makawy Hassanein is a fabulous overall artist from the village Kuka Kings of the Mahas region (Northern Sudan). Not only does the professor of art Makawy Hassanein wonderfully perform as a singer, he also composes most of his songs, and skillfully plays the main music instruments used in Nubian songs - the "Tar" (Nubian drum), "Kiser" (the ancient Nubian lyre), the acordion and also the "Oud" (Luthe), with which he accompanies most of his songs.
In addition to the songs he composed, plays and sings, Makawy Hassanein also performs songs based on poems by the great Nubian poets including Muhammad Tawfiq Ahmad, Al-Fateh Sharaf Al-Din, Abdul Shafi, Saber Nour Al-Din, and Mendiq Ali Al-Azhari. Most of his songs express his deep love for Nubia and for his village, the bitterness of alienation or scenes and wisdom of Nubian life and traditions, but he also sings affecting love songs and nuptial songs.
To the great joy and happiness of his numerous admirers, Makawy Hassanein helds many artistic gatherings with his fans, premiering his new songs. He also sings at numerous occasions, and his wonderful Nubian "Arageed" dance troupe add with their lively performance to the magic of his concerts. Makawy Hassanein is doubtlessly one of the greatest leaders of Nubian art; that's why his public lovingly calls him the "Prince".
