Despite its ancient roots as one of the oldest continuously spoken and organized languages in the World, since the Arab infiltration and islamization, and the drive in arabization by the former Sudanese and Egyptian governments, the Nubian language in its three branches survived, in recent centuries as a spoken language. The construction of dams on the Nile and the flooding of several Nubian villages, which led to the displacement and dissipation into non-nubian regions and towns of numberless Nubian families, further endangered its survival. However, thanks to huge efforts by the pioneers and activists for the revival of Nubian, who re-introduced the Nubian alphabet, learning Nubian is now becoming increasing popular - not only among the Nubian community living outside of their lands of origin themselves, but even in various countries of the World lovers of Nubian art, history and language are now eager to learn the language.

Against all the odds, including the fact that for the time being no university or college in Egypt and only one in Sudan facilitate learning, research and graduation in the Nubian language, several academics and teachers teach Nubian within their communities, write learning books and dictionaries, issue creative media applications and YouTube lessons and write lyrics and translations of songs to facilitate the acquisition of the Nubian language - in Nobiin-Fadija, Kenzi-Matokki and Andaandi-Dongolawi.
